York Street School is a large, heritage school located in Lowertown Ottawa in the Laurier/King Edward/Cobourg area. The school celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1996 with the participation of many former students. As a school in the core of the city, we offer the regular English program to an extremely diverse population. Our JK to Grade 6 pupils come primarily from the immediate neighbourhood. Grade 7 and 8 students come from a number of feeder schools, primarily RE Wilson, Queen Mary and Viscount Alexander Public School.
In 2010-2011, York Street will be one of the first OCDSB schools to offer the Early Learning Program (All Day) for Kindergarten students. At present, before and after school care will not be offered through the school board.
In addition to our K to 8 program, the school is also a site for the OCDSB's Adult ESL program. The program is run separately from the school. It includes a day care for the children of the students in Adult ESL. Call 613-239-2737 or 613-239-2325 for information about this program.
