90th Birthday Celebration

May 4th, 2012

The Grade 4-8 students at York Street PS have been reading Angel Square by Brian Doyle. They are also going to attend a special performance of "Angel Square" in early December. Mr. Doyle is a former student of York Street PS. Ask your child about their experience at the play.

The "Love Devils", a band comprised of intermediate students from York Street Public School, brought down the house at Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest July 17th, 2011!!! Click on "See What's Happening in our School" to see pictures of our stars :)

York Street Public School (613-239-2214) is a large, heritage school located in Lowertown Ottawa in the Laurier/King Edward/Cobourg area. The school celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1996 with the participation of many former students. We will celebrate our 90th anniversary throughout the 2011-2012 school year. As a school in the core of the city, we offer the regular English program to an extremely diverse population. Our JK to Grade 6 pupils come primarily from the immediate neighbourhood. Grade 7 and 8 students come from a number of feeder schools, primarily RE Wilson, Queen Mary and Viscount Alexander Public School.

As of 2010-2011, York Street is one of the first OCDSB schools to offer the Early Learning Program (All Day) for Kindergarten students. At present, before and after school care is not being offered through the school board.

In addition to our K to 8 program, the school is also a site for the OCDSB's Adult ESL program. The program is run separately from the school. It includes a day care for the children of the students in Adult ESL. Call 613-239-2737 or 613-239-2325 for information about this program.
